A matte box with no rods and no rails
The NiSi JetMag Pro Matte Box with Carbon Fibre Top Flag brings professional light control to the JetMag Pro system. It clamps onto a dedicated Matte Box adapter ring on the front of your lens, and your existing 82MAG and 95MAG magnetic filters drop straight in behind it. The ring is a different part from the standard JetMag Pro adapter ring: the rings you already own will not hold the matte box.
Precision light control
Stray light is the fastest way to lose contrast. The matte interior absorbs reflections before they reach the glass, cutting flare and veiling glare so images stay punchy when you are shooting into the light or under mixed practicals.
Removable carbon fibre top flag
The top flag shades the front element from overhead sun and hard practical lighting. It is carbon fibre, so it is light and rigid, and it comes off in seconds when you do not need it. If it is ever damaged you replace the flag, not the matte box.
140g, and steady in the wind
At 140g the matte box adds light control without upsetting gimbal balance. Airflow channels on both sides cut wind drag, which matters when you are shooting from a moving vehicle or into coastal wind.
Secure clamp-on mount
The clamp-on mount attaches to its adapter ring in seconds and holds the matte box square to the lens through fast-paced shooting. No threads to chase, no tools to carry, and swapping lenses is just as quick.

One matte box for stills and video
Because it runs on the JetMag Pro system, it works with the whole 82MAG and 95MAG range. Stack an ND and a CPL for landscape, reach for the VND or Black Mist for video, or add Black Magic Diffusion or Cross Screen 4x. Filters snap on magnetically and the patented lock holds the stack secure.
Which adapter ring do I need?
The adapter ring is chosen by your lens filter thread: 67mm, 72mm, 77mm and 82mm rings go to 82MAG, while 82mm, 86mm and 95mm rings go to 95MAG. Cinema lenses with a 95mm outer diameter use the 95mm Cinema Clamp.
For an 82mm lens, which fits both, choose 95MAG if you also own an 86mm or 95mm lens, or if you shoot at 16mm with a variable ND: see the test below. Otherwise choose 82MAG.

How wide can you go? The vignetting test
NiSi tested the matte box on a Sony 16-35mm f/2.8, which has an 82mm filter thread and is about as demanding as a full frame zoom gets. These are the results as measured, not a rounded claim.

The short version: on 95MAG nothing vignetted at 16mm, in any combination tested. On 82MAG, 16mm is the limit: one filter is clean, two show a little, and the VND vignettes noticeably because it is a thicker two-element design. The slight vignetting with two filters disappeared once NiSi applied the lens profile correction in Photoshop. From 17mm everything tested was clean, VND included. If you shoot at 16mm with a variable ND, choose 95MAG.
Lenses with a 67mm, 72mm or 77mm thread only fit 82MAG. The test was run on an 82mm lens, so we have no measured result for those threads at 16mm yet.
